Ruling SocDem party head supports President’s position on voluntary quota of immigrants

Liviu Dragnea, the interim leader of the ruling Social Democrat Party, supports President Klaus Iohannis’s position on the number of immigrants Romania can accept.
”I maintain what I said from the beginning and I support what President Iohannis said, because I had the same position, namely that it is important for us to obtain voluntary quotas of migrants. A voluntary quota means accepting a number of immigrants in accordance with the country’s capacity of providing all the human and decent living conditions in terms of medical assistance, administrative procedures, food and everything necessary (…). We are waiting to see the negotiations by state authorities, what happens at the European Council, so that we do not forget the human solidarity feeling, the European solidarity obligations, while remembering the country and the Romanian citizens must be protected,” Dragnea declared on Thursday.
He mentioned he has discussed with Education Minister Sorin Cimpeanu the idea of hosting immigrants in student dormitories, and the matter was settled: “I did not say one solution or another is good. I voiced a point of view that in this kind of very sensitive situation, it’s a very complicated operation that needs to be well coordinated (…) and consistent communication. The President, the prime minister and the interior minister are the three authorities with responsibilities in this circumstance. (…) This was my dissatisfaction about Cimpeanu’s announcing he asked universities to host immigrants in their campuses; he explained it to me, we’re clear,” Dragnea asserted. According to Agerpres, he mentioned he did not have the opportunity to meet Vice Prime Minister Gabriel Oprea on the migration issue.

PSD expels member over racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic statements online

The leadership of the Olt County chapter of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD) held an emergency meeting on Thursday night to expel party member Daniel Predoiu, following his racist, xenophobic and anti-Semitic statements on the Internet.

“The decision was adopted upon the request of the PSD branch in Caracal (…) The Olt chapter of the PSD disavows from and fully condemns [Predoiu’s] actions and even calls the authorized bodies to take the necessary measures if verifications show an infringement of laws,” a release of the county organization of the party reads.

Predoiu’s ousting was announced earlier on Thursday by PSD’s interim head Liviu Dragnea, who said the central leadership will take the decision if the local one fails to.

Among other things, Predoiu had boasted of his admiration for Adolf Hitler.
