Deputy Premier Gabriel Oprea to attend JHA Council on Monday

Deputy Prime Minister for National Security and Minister of Internal Affairs Gabriel Oprea will attend on Monday the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Justice and Home Affairs (JHA) taking place in Brussels, which will debate the package of measures on migrants proposed by the European Commission on September 9, informs a Ministry release to Agerpres.

“As per the mandate entrusted to him by the President and the Prime Minister of Romania, Deputy Prime Minister for National Security Gabriel Oprea will present before the European Interior ministers and European Commission representatives Romania’s consolidated stance to participate in the relocation mechanism by taking in 1,705 asylum applicants from Italy and Greece, and a further 80 people from outside the European Union, and to reject the mandatory quotas imposed on member states by the European Commission,” reads the release of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Apart from the EU Interior ministers, also attending the extraordinary meeting of the JHA Council will be representatives of European agencies and the United Nations – Frontex, the European Asylum Support Office, Europol, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organization for Migration.
