Iliescu: A complex person, who cannot be judged superficially. He loved his country

“I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of the premature passing away of the one who has been the poet and cultural personality Corneliu Vadim Tudor, the President of the Greater Romania Party. He was one of the political personalities who influenced the last 25 years, with all the good things and the less than good things he had done. He consequently pursued his political aims, even when, wishing to make himself better understood, his nationalistic message was exaggerated. He passionately loved his country, as few people are able to do it”, Ion Iliescu mentioned on Monday, on his personal blog.
Iliescu declared about Corneliu Vadim Tudor that he has served Romania and he has supported national consensus in essential matters, such as integration in the EU and joining NATO.
“He has served Romania, supporting national consensus when essential topics were approached, such as integration in the EU and joining NATO. Corneliu Vadim Tudor and the Greater Romania Party were members of the Government coalition at the beginning of the 90s, along with FDSN”, the former President outlined.
He also brought up the year 2000, when he had competed with Corneliu Vadim Tudor in the final round of presidential elections.
“In the year 2000, as everyone knows, we have been competing directly during elections for the position of Romanian President, and we entered the final stage together. Vadim was a complex person, who cannot be judged superficially. By everything he has done, he has made himself a place in the history of post-revolution Romania.
I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to the mourning family, friends and his political collaborators. May God help him rest in peace!”, Ion Iliescu concluded.
