Interim national chairman of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) Liviu Dragnea on Tuesday announced that the party’s Congress will convene in an extraordinary meeting on October 11.
“We have decided to convene the National Executive Committee on Monday, and the proposal of the county branches is for the extraordinary convention of the Congress to be held on October 11,” Dragnea said after a meeting of the PSD National Standing Bureau.
Liviu Dragnea said he will announce next Monday if he runs for a leading position at the convention of the party’s Congress.
“After the Executive Committee meeting, I shall weigh, if the congress date is also set, I shall announce if I run for a position in the party’s leadership,” Dragnea said at the end of a PSD’s National Standing Bureau meeting.
PM Ponta: PSD Congress must give clear message it wants the party to continue governing
It is important for the convention of the Social Democrat Party (PSD) Congress to give a clear message whether it wants the party to continue governing or go into the opposition, says Prime Minister Victor Ponta.
“There is just one thing I want the [convention of the] Congress to do, and I say once again I will not be running for any office in the party: beside electing the leadership, it is important for the Congress to give a clear message about the party continuing the govern or going in the opposition, so that we, the Government, may know what to do,” Ponta told the opening of a meeting on Tuesday of the PSD National Standing Bureau.
Asked whether or not he agrees with changing the date for the convention of the PSD Congress, Ponta said, ”Certainly, what they decide here will be very good.”
About the National Council adopting a resolution that would urge the party members to integrity, Ponta said “the Congress decides important things.”
