Electric and hybrid car sales almost doubled

The number of new electric and hybrid cars sold in Romania in the first eight months of the year has grown by 97.10 per cent compared to the same period last year, the Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA) informs.
The sales of environmentally-friendly cars represent 0.4 per cent of the total auto sales registered during the first eight months of the year.
According to APIA, 272 electric and hybrid cars have been sold in the first eight months of the year, 19 of which are fully electric. During the same period last year, 138 electric and hybrid cars were sold, 2 of which were fully electric.
When it comes to the sales of environmentally-friendly vehicles, Romania trails behind Norway, France, Netherlands, United Kingdom and Germany.
In 2015 the Cash for Clunkers programme features differentiated bonuses that add up to the RON 6,500 trade-in voucher and the possibility of cumulating a maximum of two eco-bonuses when purchasing a new auto vehicle, namely a RON 750 bonus when purchasing a new auto vehicle that generates less than 100 grams of carbon dioxide emissions per kilometre, a RON 1,500 bonus when purchasing a new auto vehicle that features a hybrid engine system (conventional hybrid technologies), and a RON 2,500 eco-bonus when buying a new hybrid electric auto vehicle (advanced plug-in technologies).
The Cash for Clunkers programme opened for applications from physical persons on April 27 and has a budget of RON 162.5 M this year.
