Romania, South Korea trade hits nearly half a billion dollars by mid-year

Trade between Romania and South Korea surged 50 percent in the six months of this year as compared to the same period a year ago, hitting nearly half a billion dollars, according to figures released by the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Thursday.
Romanian imports amount to roughly 238 million dollars, while exports total 260 million dollars.
‘On June 30, 2015, the Republic of Korea ranked 24th among the states investing in Romania, with 234 Korean-owned companies and a total investment volume at around 202 million dollars’, the Chamber said in a release sent on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the commercial relations with Seoul.
The Bucharest Chamber management had a meeting with a Korean economic mission headed by Dae Oan Gu, deputy managing director of Hwaseong Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
In the opening of the gathering, Bucharest Chamber Vice Chairman Iuliu Stocklosa briefly presented the commerce body, its role and place in the economic and social life of Romania and spoke about the foreign relation strategy of the institution, underscoring the importance given the development of economic and commercial cooperation with partners in South-East Asia.
The Korean Embassy in Bucharest together with the Korean Centre for the Promotion of Commerce – Kotra Romania organized on Wednesday and Thursday the event entitled ‘Korea – Romania SMEs Business Partnership Plaza 2015’.
