U.S. Ambassador to Romania Hans Klemm (L) expresses his sadness about the Romanian soldiers who were injured in the attack involving an improvised explosive device during a mission in Afghanistan on Sunday. “On behalf of the government of the United States, I want to express my sincere sympathy to the soldiers, their families, friends, and fellow soldiers and to wish them a speedy recovery,” Klemm told in a statement on Tuesday.
“They performed their mission courageously and the Romanian soldiers fulfill a vital role in NATO’s mission to oppose tyranny and extremism in Afghanistan. The United States is proud to have Romania as one of its closest allies in Afghanistan. We owe a debt of gratitude to these young men and the valiant men and women of the Romanian Army for their courage and self-sacrifice,” the statement shows.
The three military are part of the 811th Infantry Force Protection Battalion dubbed the Transylvanian Dragons and they sustained injuries while on a patrolling mission at around 10 a.m. on Sunday, following a car bomb near Kandahar military base.
