Telecom authority: 623 million mailings in 2014

The Romanian postal services market totalled 623 million mailings in 2014, up by 10 percent from the previous year, more than 95 percent of such mailings being processed by the Romanian Post National Company and another ten private suppliers of large volume, shows a Report of statistic data regarding the 2014 postal services released by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) on Monday.
More than 80 percent of the total mailings recorded last year were letters (over 521 million), some 10 percent were parcels (62 million), 1.4 percent were Express mailings (8.7 million) and the remaining 5 percent were advertising mailings (18.8 million), postal orders (8.3 million) and correspondence and printed materials over two kilograms (4 million). Nearly 593 million were domestic mailings and over 30 million were international mailings, the Report said.
ANCOM underscored that a Romanian sent 32 mailings on average last year, a 20 percent increase on 2013.
As for the revenues, the Report says more than 90 percent of the revenues made on the postal market last year were obtained by 15 suppliers, the Romanian Post among them; they processed some 97 percent of the total mailings processed last year. The rate of active suppliers kept steady at roughly 60 percent of the total authorised ones (237 active suppliers in 371 authorised suppliers), but the number of those having expressed the intention to become suppliers of postal services dropped from 2013.
