Competition Council issues RON 920,000 fine against 10 natural gas companies

The Competition Council has issued total fines of RON 920,000 (EUR 207,690) against 10 natural gas companies for anti-competitive arrangements whose goal was to set a unique price for standard installations, the Council announced on Tuesday in press release.
The list of companies fined includes a natural gas distributor and 9 natural gas services companies, the biggest fine (RON 788,017) being issued against Wirom Gas.
According to the aforementioned source, nine other companies were fined: Miral Instal Company SRL (RON 39,051), INSTPRO SRL (RON 31,680), Elisan SRL (RON 20,943), Dornacor SRL (RON 17,650), Rodimar I Eximp SRL (RON 12,488), TMG Conprest SRL (RON 5,498), Melprest SRL (RON 3,534), Metalica Prod SRL (RON 1,029) and Meliorstal SRL (RON 499).
“The contracts between the natural gas distributor and the subcontractors contained anti-competitive clauses that set a fixed price for the construction of installations. In this way, the beneficiaries of the works, namely the consumers, were unjustifiably paying a far higher price compared to the one existing prior to the arrangement,” Competition Council President Bogdan Chiritoiu pointed out.
The Competition Council points out that it encourages companies involved in this kind of anti-competitive arrangements to contact the Council, to admit their participation to the infringement and to offer proof concerning the said infringement. By doing so, companies can benefit from substantial reductions of the fines issued, depending on the moment in which they step forward and on the value of the information offered.
