MEP Viorica Dancila, new chair of Social Democrat women

PSD member of the European Parliament Viorica Dancila was elected President of Social Democrat women on Sunday, with a unanimity of votes. The conference of the National Organization of Democrat Women (OFSD) was held at the Operetta Theatre of Bucharest on Sunday.

The National Organization of Social Democrat Women held a meeting on Sunday at the Operetta Theatre in Bucharest to elect a new leader, after Rovana Plumb had become the President of PSD National Council.
With a unanimity of votes, MEP Viorica Dancila from Teleorman County, the only candidate who has joined the race, was elected President of OFSD. The event was also attended by interim President of PSD Liviu Dragnea, who expressed his support for his fellow county woman, admitting that he had helped her to enter politics.
“I think I can say that I helped Viorica enter politics. She had ascended naturally in politics and gained experience in a healthy way, not by jumping certain stages. I think she is a great choice as President of the Women’s Organization, at this time, and I think she can carry on all of Rovana Plumb’ projects”, Dragnea declared.
“It is a great responsibility for me, but also a great honour and, as I know Social Democrat ladies, they will keep showing a great commitment from now on as well, and we all know women are always committed and put a lot of soul in what they do, regardless of their field of activity”, Viorica Dancila declared, after the ballot.

Social Democrat women support Dragnea

During the OFSD National Conference, a resolution was adopted, expressing the support of Social Democrat women to Liviu Dragnea’s candidacy as leader of the party. “Social Democrat women support this candidacy and they are convinced that Dragnea has the required force and capacity to lead the party, so that the year 2016 would mean victory both in local and Parliamentary elections”, Viorica Dancila declared.

The objectives of the new management

Viorica Dancila also announced some of the objectives targeted by OFSD for the near future. According to the new President, OFSD has the duty to assume responsibility to propose candidates for the elections of 2016. “It is hardly important that, by all our initiatives and actions, we would focus on dynamic categories of public PSD has had less of a dialogue so far, such as women working in academic environment, research and sciences (and I have suggested recently a special amendment for them, approved by the European Parliament), women working in corporations, women working in fields that are mostly mastered by men, women involved in civil society, women working and living outside the borders. We have to learn to promote ourselves as much as possible, we have to promote local actions of OFSD even by an intensive use of Internet, so that our message would reach all categories of women in Romania.
It is important that our organization would have a constant presence in public discussions, by precisely contoured opinions on topics of interest, especially those related to family”, Viorica Dancila declared.
