*France loses top stop to Italy
According to the latest estimates from Brussels, in 2015 Italy will become the biggest wine producer in Europe, overtaking France. Italy has been Europe’s biggest producer of wine since 2010, with the exception of 2014 when France topped the wine production rankings.
Romania will be 6th, with a total production of 4.069 million hectoliters, up by 6.1 per cent year-on-year.
Italy is expected to produce 48.8 million hectoliters this year, overtaking France (47.6 million hectoliters) and Spain (36.6 million hectoliters). Germany will be 4th (8.7 million hectoliters) and Poland 5th (6.7 million hectoliters).
Europe is the undisputable leader at global level, given the fact that its top three producers (Italy, France and Spain) control almost half the global wine production.
