Vice-premier Oprea, UK ambassador Brummell discuss strategic partnership

Vice Prime Minister for national security, Gabriel Oprea, minister of Internal Affairs had a working meeting on Thursday with the United Kingdom’s ambassador to Bucharest, Paul Brummell, on the bilateral cooperation, a press release by the relevant ministry informed Agerpres.

The Romanian vice premier stressed that Romania and the United Kingdom have a strategic partnership relation, developed in particular on the security dimension, and also on the military cooperation in the operation theatres, on the fight against crime and on justice cooperation.

“During the meeting, there were mentions of the constant support given by the UK to the Romanian authorities both on operative level, by initiating and developing investigations on the humans’ trafficking, and on the strategic level, by developing some cooperation projects aiming to combat Romanian crime in the UK, such as the development of the NEXUS project, wherein currently the MAI participates with four officers in the operative activities in cooperation with the British police,” the press communique adds.

In his turn, the ambassador appreciated the permanent collaboration between the law enforcement bodies of the two countries, as well as the current bilateral dialogue, and expressed his wish of consolidating the partnership in order to attain all the goals on the common agenda, the source detailed.
