Films awarded at international festivals in 2015, screened in Bucharest

Films that won awards at grand international festivals in 2015 will be screened in Bucharest during a cinema marathon on November 1, under the umbrella of “Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest”, a press release issued by the organizers announces.

Thus, the films “Taxi”, the winner of a Golden Bear at the Berlinale, “From Afar”, awarded a Golden Lion in Venice and “Dheepan”, the Palme d’Or winner at Cannes, may be seen at Studio Cinema on the same day, as part of a series of screenings additional to the event “Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest.”

The Bucharest festival is scheduled during October 23 – 29, but viewers may enjoy three additional days of screenings at the Studio Cinema, after the official closing of the event.
During each of the three evenings – October 30, 31 and November 1 – there will be a screening of Palme d’Or winning “Dheepan” and on October 31, starting at 11, viewers may see Miguel Gomes’ 338 minute film “Arabian Nights”.

The other films benefiting of an additional screening each are “Our Little Sister” by Hirokazu Kore-Eda, “Taklub” by Brillante Mendoza and “La Tierra y la Sombra” by Cesar Augusto Acevedo , the winner of Camera d’Or.

On November 1, at Studio Cinema, the marathon of award-winning films, named “The Golden Day” will start at 4:45 PM with “Taxi”, directed by Jafar Panahi, the winner of the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival in February. Starting at 6:45, the action moves to Venezuela, the country of director Lorenzo Vigas, winner of the Golden Lion at the Venice Festival with a strong debut, “Desde Alla/ From Afar”. “The Golden Day” will be finished, ar 8:45 pm, with “Dheepan”, the winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes 2015. During the festival, “Dheepan” will be introduced in Bucharest by director Jacques Audiard himself, one of the most appreciated filmmakers of the moment.

Audiard will talk to viewers and hold a masterclass at the University of Drama and Film (UNATC) on October 26, starting at 11:00 am.
Over 30 films included in the selection of the Cannes Film Festival, twelve of them winners of various awards, may be viewed for the first time in Romania during October 23 – 29, at Pro Cinema, Studio Cinema and “Elvire Popesco” Cinema, hosts of “Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest”. Among the special guests of the edition, there are Jacques Audiard and actress and director Emmanuelle Bercot, who will open “Les Films de Cannes a Bucarest” with “La tete haute”.
