Ludovic Orban replaces Dan Motreanu at helm of Lower Chamber

Lower Chamber lawmakers voted in favour of appointing National Liberal Party (PNL) MP Ludovic Orban Deputy Speaker of the Lower Chamber, after Liberal Dan Motreanu resigned because of his legal problems. Ludovic Orban was validated with 210 votes in favour and 34 against. Ludovic Orban lost the internal competition for a new term as leader of the PNL group to Eugen Nicolaescu, by a margin of a single vote. Dan Motreanu and former presidential advisor George Scutaru have been arraigned by DNA prosecutors who accuse them of engaging in money laundering in order to finance the party’s elections campaign in 2008.
