Romania, U.S. conduct ‘Justice Sword 15.2’ joint military exercise Oct 26 – Nov 6

Over 1,800 Romanian Land Forces troops with 450 pieces of hardware and 300 U.S. troops with 90 pieces of hardware will participate between October 26 – November 6, on the Smardan firing range – Galati County, in the combined arms live fire drill – “Justice Sword 15.2.”

According to a General Staff release, the Romanian troops of the 282nd “Union of the Principalities” Mechanised Brigade receive support from subunits of 52nd “General Alexandru Tell” Mixed Artillery Regiment, 30th “Dragoslavele” Mountain Troops Battalion, 630th “Smaranda Braescu” Paratroopers Battalion, and elements from the “Marshall Alexandru Averescu” Military Intelligence Brigade, the 1st CIMIC Battalion and the Psychological Operations Center.

The actions of the land forces are also supported by MiG 21 LanceRs, IAR 330 Puma Socat helicopters and a C-27J Spartan aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.

The participating U.S. troops are from the 5th Battalion of the 7th Cavalry Regiment of the U.S. Army, which are deployed to Europe and who will take action for the first time in Romania with M1 Abrams tanks, M2 Bradley infantry fighting vehicles and M109A6 Paladin self-propelled howitzers.

The purpose of the “JUSTICE SWORD 15.2” joint drill is to harmonize operation tactics and procedures, increasing trust in the equipment and group cohesion.
