Transport Minister reported start of investigation on defective motorway

Social Democrat Party (PSD) chairman Liviu Dragnea stated on Monday that Transport Minister Iulian Matache has announced during a meeting of the PSD leadership (PSD) that he asked the minister’s control body to start investigating the defective Sibiu-Orastie motorway. According to Dragnea, Matache asserted that the general contractor is liable for the road repairs.
‘Mr. Iulian Matache presented us with a short summary of the situation at the Sibiu-Orastie motorway where, you know, the works have been resumed on a 200 meters section. He told us there has been a series of mistakes starting with the 2007-2008 feasibility study, which did not take into account all elements on the ground, design errors which went on, the errors in the feasibility study, a mistake of the developer. We were also informed that he ordered an investigation, a review on behalf of the minister’s Investigation Body,’ Dragnea stated in a press conference after the Monday’s meeting of PSD’s National Standing Bureau. ‘I requested this briefing because it was a topic of national interest,’ the PSD chairman explained.
Dragnea added that he asked the transport minister to organize a press conference to explain publicly – as soon as possible after he gets the results of the control body’s investigation – the causes of this situation, ‘the current status and what measures he has taken and is planning to take in the future.’.
