Holcim Romania officially launches Holcim Workshops, a programme that supports vocational education among students. The main beneficiaries of this educational programme are 11th and 12th grade high school students from the Alexandru Roman College in Alesd and from the Technical College in Campulung Muscel.
Following a pilot module that takes place this year, starting in 2016 the programme will include a theoretical and a practical side that will take place over a period of 5 to 6 weeks. Once they are admitted to the practical module, the students will spend 3 to 4 weeks in one of the Holcim plants where they will learn about work in the cement industry – mechanical maintenance, electrical maintenance, preventive maintenance, the production of cement – and will take part in exercises in the mechanical workshop.
The students selected for the practical module will have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the activity taking place in Holcim’s plants in Alesd and Campulung, some of Holcim International Group’s best and most sustainable cement plants, as shown by the result of the Holcim Plant Awards, a global competition organized by Holcim Group every year.
Holcim Romania has 2 cement plants in Campulung and Alesd, a mill and a cement terminal in Turda, 14 environmentally-friendly concrete stations, 3 aggregates stations, 2 special binders stations and a cement terminal in Bucharest. Holcim Romania has approximately 800 employees. Holchim Romania is a member of LafargeHolcim Group.
