Nicusor Constantinescu gets 3-year and 6 month prison sentence

The suspended President of Constanta County Council, Nicusor Constantinescu, was sentenced by the Constanta Tribunal on Wednesday to three years and six months in prison in the Constanta Military centre case in which he had been charged with abuse of power. The court decision is not final.
Nicusor Constantinescu was sent to trial by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in 2014 for abuse of power, accuse of not proving the financing to the Constanta Military Centre in 2009 – 2013 according to the legal duties he had as the President of Constanta County Council.
According to the investigators, Constantinescu caused a material damage to the patrimony of the Ministry of National Defence worth approximately RON 67,000.
Apart from the Constanta Military Centre case, N. Constantinescu is also on trial in Constanta in a separate case regarding the illegal financing of sports clubs, charged with several offences including abuse of power and conflict of interest.
