“Jean Sibelius – 150 years since birth” – recital at Romanian Athenaeum

Wednesday, November 4, 7 p.m., the Romanian Athenaeum will host the “Jean Sibelius – 150 years since birth” recital organized by the “George Enescu” Philharmonic in collaboration with the Embassy of Finland. The recital will be given by pianist Ilinca Dumitrescu who will perform Jean Sibelius’s Op.12 Sonata and Op.26 Finlandia poem (the composer’s edition for piano).
This is not the first time when Ilinca Dumitrescu performs the pieces of Finnish composers. Throughout the years, the pianist included in her performances pieces by J. Sibelius, S. Palmgren, J. Kokkonen, E. Rautavaara, U. Merilainen, many of them for the first time in Romania. Likewise, she performed several Finnish pieces as part of the International Festival of New Music in Bucharest. She was artistic director of the Nights of Finnish Music Festival (6 editions) at the “George Enescu” Museum in Bucharest. She gave many concerts in Helsinki and other Finnish cities, within prestigious venues, concerts that resulted in great reviews from specialists. She gave a recital at Hameenlinna, the famous Jean Sibelius memorial museum.
