Resigning Prime Minister Victor Ponta said Wednesday at the Parliament Palace that he recommends incumbent Defence Minister Mircea Dusa for acting prime minister.
“The Government will convene at 16:00hrs for a last meeting so that I may thank my colleagues and pass pieces of legislation that were underway, after which, this evening, I will tender my resignation to President Iohannis and submit my recommendation for Mr Mircea Dusa to take over as acting prime minister,” said Ponta.
Dusa: I am waiting to see whether the President agrees with my nomination as acting PM
Defence Minister Mircea Dusa said Wednesday that he is waiting to see whether President Klaus Iohannis agrees with him being nominated acting prime minister to replace resigning Prime Minister Victor Ponta, saying that an acting prime minister manages only the current affairs of the Government pending the nomination of a new Cabinet.
“This morning I had a conversation with the national leader of the party [the Social Democrat Party], Mr Dragnea, and the prime minister about me being recommended to take over as interim prime minister. We shall see whether Mr President accepts the nomination. An acting prime minister manages the current affairs of the Government pending the nomination of a new Cabinet. For the time being, we are waiting to see whether or not Mr President agrees with the nomination,” Dusa said at the Parliament Palace.
