Musician Andre Rieu honours Colectiv club fire victims, promises to write a song for the youth who lost their lives

Violinist Andre Rieu visited the Colectiv Club of Bucharest on Saturday, coming from the Netherlands to honour the victims of the October 30 fire, Agerpres informs.

Rieu had come several times to Bucharest this year, to perform his worldwide famous concerts.

This time he just prayed alongside a group of young people and knelt near the thousands of candles still burning at the tragedy site. He lit one himself, laid a wreath of white lilies and roses, and promised to write a song for the youth who lost their lives there and to donate to the victims’ families the proceedings from the recently issued DVD with his June concerts in Romania. Tears were visible in his eyes as he said he has only his music to offer, and hopes it will help.

“It’s very difficult . You know, life is composed of memories and the Romanians gave me so many memories in the two weeks I was in Romania . When I heard what happened, the only thing I thought was to come here and cry with you . Sorry , the only thing I can offer you is my music , “said André Rieu .

“It was something very beautiful, but now it is very sad . I can only offer you my music and money . I hope that they will help people (… ) All that happened was awful. I could only cry with them ( victims of the tragedy , no) . It is the only relief that I can offer them . All my thoughts and my music will be with the victims. I will compose a song for them, ” said Andre Rieu , in the applauses of the approximately 200 people gathered in front of Colectiv club.

So far, the incident has caused 41 deaths; 27 people were killed in the club, and the other died later in various hospitals in Bucharest and abroad; dozens are still under treatment, many in critical condition.
