Black Friday: Romanians spend online 30 pc more than in 2014

The Black Friday craze that has started to take over Romanian society ever since 4-5 years ago is expanding to the most unexpected sectors. While it is known that in e-commerce anyone can benefit from a discount, even with the retailers’ margin of suspicion, this year banks and the medical services sector have joined the game.
According to an estimate authored by Netopia mobilPay, the leader of e-payments in Romania, the Romanians’ online budget for this year’s Black Friday will reach an average of RON 460, over a third higher compared to last year’s RON 340.
Likewise, the average sum spent on Black Friday will double compared to the annual average. Thus, this year the daily average online transaction stood at RON 230, and on Black Friday Romanians will spend an average of RON 460.
The consumers’ appetite for low prices already announced by online retailers will also impact the total number of e-payments made in Romania, which is set to grow by over 50 per cent, at a rhythm similar to the one registered last year.
“E-commerce reflects maybe most accurately the evolution of consumption in Romania. One can feel a financial stability that determines Romanians to buy. And even though they do that as part of a traditional event featuring massive discounts, it’s important that they will spend more than they did last year and will do it by increasingly using cards instead of paying on delivery,” NETOPIA mobilPay CEO and Founder Antonio Eram stated.
