Code Orange alert of rain, strong winds issued for 5 counties starting Friday night

The National Meteorology Administration has issued Code Yellow and Code Orange alerts of rain and strong winds to be in place starting 2 a.m. on Friday night in counties in northern, western and southwestern Romania.

According to the Forecaster, the Code Orange alert to be in place till noon on Sunday targets the county of Maramures, as well as the mountain areas of the counties of Bistrita Nasaud, Bihor, Cluj and Salaj, where the rainwater will exceed 50 litres per square meter and reach as much as 70 litres per sqm in isolated spots.

Furthermore, over Nov. 21, at 9 a.m. – Nov. 22, at 9 a.m. there will be a Code Yellow warning of rain in 15 counties in western, northwestern and northern Romania, where downpours will locally exceed 25 – 30 litres per sqm and as much as 50 litres per sqm in isolated spots. The counties being issued the warning are Satu Mare, Salaj, Suceava, Neamt, Botosani, Harghita, Mures, Bihor, Arad, Alba, Timisoara, Hunedoara, Caras-Severin, Gorj and Mehedinti.

Snow will fall Saturday night in the Western Carpathians, the northern groups of the Eastern Carpathians and at over 1,800 metre-heights in the other massifs, the Forecaster announced.

Mixed downpours are possible on Sunday, Nov. 22 in the hills in western and northern Romania. The wind will blow in gusts in most of the regions, at 55-60 kmph. In the high mountain areas mostly the gusts of wind will be quite strong, reaching 90-100 kmph, drifting the snow.
