Save the Children and Alpha Bank help children in difficult situations

Alpha Bank Romania has signed a partnership with Save the Children Romania in the benefit of children in situations of school dropping out risk. For each deposit contract signed as part of a campaign ongoing until December 11, the bank will donate RON 5 to support programmes developed by Save the Children. Moreover, all customers who choose during this campaign Alpha Deposit Per Plus benefit of a 50 per cent higher interest rate than that of a standard three-month deposit, as well as of a cash withdrawal fee at bank offices in the closing day of the deposit and in the next three days.
Save the Children will use funds collected during this campaign for the programmes conducted by the organization in its educational centres. By these programmes, children of unfavourable background are granted education and social, legal and psychological counseling services, destined to return them to school or to prevent dropping out of school.
Children’s return to school and school abandon prevention are major objectives of the Save the Children organization. This is why the organization developed multi-annual programmes destined to facilitate these children’s access to school education by implementing educational and social services. 16,700 children were entered in the programmes “Second Chance” and “School After School” and 13,000 parents received financial, social, legal and psychological support.
The partnership between Save the Children Romania and Alpha Bank is all the more important, as statistics concerning dropping out of school are terrifying. In the year 2013, 48.5% of Romanian children were living in risk of poverty or social isolation, compared to an average level of 27.7 per cent in EU states, the latest Eurostat reveals.
