The Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker, Valeriu Zgonea on Tuesday emphasized during an official visit to Montenegro Romania’s support for the national goals of this country to access the European Union and the North-Atlantic Treaty Organisation.
Valeriu Zgonea has had talks with the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapic during which the Romanian official congratulated the Podgorica authorities for the formal invitation to join the NATO, saying that “the NATO extension significantly contributes to the strengthening of the European and regional security”, according to Agerpres.
“It is a success for Montenegro and for the NATO, as well as a recognition of your impressive outcome. The NATO accession is more than a military collaboration, it reflects the strengthening of the democratic institutions, the consolidation of the rule of law and the economic development’s level. We believe that the integration of Montenegro will be a valuable asset for the Alliance,” said Zgonea, according to the press release.
In his turn, the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Ranko Krivokapic appreciated the constant stance of Romania to supporting his country’s membership to the European and Euro-Atlantic structures, the communique adds.
The Chamber of Deputies’ Speaker expressed his full confidence in the positive role of the parliamentary diplomacy in the development of the bilateral relationships between the two states, and in this context the two chairmen of legislative forums signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Romanian Chamber of Deputies and the Montenegro’s Parliament focused on the consolidation of the inter-parliamentary cooperation.
During this official visit, the Romanian delegation headed by Valeriu Zgonea was received by the President of Montenegro, Filip Vujanovic, the talks focusing the stage of the bilateral cooperation, aspects connected to the strengthening of the ties in all cooperation fields between the two states and the European, Euro-Atlantic outlook of Montenegro.
