UDMR to renew its team for local, parliamentary elections

UDMR Chairman Kelemen Hunor said on Tuesday that the party he leads would renew the team of candidates for next year’s local and parliamentary elections, mentioning that the Union understood as early as last year that a “reset” of the political class was needed.

”We started a reset of the Union as early as last year, and even at April’s Congress the theme was “reset.” We understood some time ago that change of style, approach and attitude was needed and we will have major changes next year in UDMR,” Kelemen Hunor told an interview for Adevarul Live.

Kelemen added that UDMR would take into account a series of standards and criteria for designating the candidates, in line with the expectations of society, related to integrity and non-collaboration with former (political police – editor’s note) Securitate, and would encourage more than before women’s presence in politics.

In the context of the discussions related to local elections, Kelemen said that UDMR favoured holding the election of mayors in one round, as the two-round version facilitates “non-transparent alliances and coalitions.”
