Approximately 100 of the 1,100 mayors of the National Liberal Party (PNL) will not be able to run in the next elections under their party’s aegis because they fail to meet the integrity criteria recently adopted by PNL. PNL Vice President Teodor Atanasiu has confirmed the situation.
“We have plenty of losses. 100 mayors, losses out of 1,100. PNL is making an effort no other party has made, despite the fact that most of the voters do not look at this aspect. We incur losses from the get-go in order to reform the political class,” Teodor Atanasiu stated on Wednesday evening on Realitatea TV.
PNL’s National Council will meet on Friday, December 11, in order to adopt the integrity criteria. PNL members that will run in the local elections will have to meet other criteria too, other
than the legal criteria included in the statute. Among them are the criteria that concern conflict of interest and incompatibilities.
