German ambassador to Colectiv victims’ families: My thoughts are with you

Germany’s ambassador to Romania, Werner Hans Lauk (photo L), opened on Friday afternoon the 4th edition of the German traditional Christmas Fair, wishing happy holidays and a peaceful year to the few hundreds of visitors present in the event, also having for the families of the victims with the Colectiv club a pious thought.

He confessed that the year he has spent in Romania was “as much exciting, with many accomplishments and satisfactions,” yet he also recalled that 2015 was also a year marked by natural catastrophes, such as the Nepal earthquake, by threats with terrorist acts by the Islamic State, and also by the “terrible” tragedy of the Colectiv club in Bucharest, on October 30.

“This evening, I wish I send the families and the friends of the victims of the terrible fire the following message: my thoughts, our thoughts are with you!” said Werner Hans Lauk.

The German ambassador recalled that there are a lot of people whose situation is really difficult and specified that this year too, the incomes from the Christmas Fair will be allocated to charity, as they are dedicated to some persons who have become victims of the human trafficking and who need protection, to some elders and as financial support to the taking care of some persons with incurable illnesses.

He told the audience that this year’s guest of the Fair is “The Christmas Angel” (“Christkind”), embodied by a young woman with golden blonde curls and clothes, from Nuremberg, to the delight of the little ones and of their parents, too.

“The face of the Christmas Angel is often attributed to the reformist Martin Luther in some regions of Germany, in particular the protestant ones, the Christmas Angel being the one who took over the role of Saint Nicholas to bring gifts to the children,” said the German diplomat, according to Agerpres.

To the success of the fair, the “Karpatenshow” fanfare and the children choirs of the Bucharest German School (DSBU) and of the German Goethe Institute, brought their contribution.
