Calin Popescu Tariceanu’s ex-wife, heard as witness in Remus Truica’s case

Ioana Valmar, the ex-wife of Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu, was heard on Monday at DNA Brasov as a witness in the case concerning illegal restitution of properties, a case in which Prince Paul, Remus Truica, Dan Andronic, Lucian Mateescu and Marius Marcovici are investigated, judicial sources informed.

The aforementioned sources stated that Ioana Valmar was subpoenaed at the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in Brasov in order to give a statement as witness in the case concerning the illegal restitution of properties in Ilfov County, a case in which the damage has been estimated at EUR 135 M.

According to the sources, Ioana Valmar, the ex-wife of Senate Speaker Calin Popescu Tariceanu, allegedly made a statement about the fact that certain documents and real-estate agreements related to the plots of lands concerned in the case were drafted within her public notary office. The sources claimed that the persons handling the restitutions allegedly asked her to draft the paperwork with sums other than those established by the norms concerning fees. Ioana Valmar rejected those requests.

Paul of Hohenzollern, self-styled Prince of Romania, Remus Truica and lawyer Robert Rosu are investigated while under home arrest. Dan Andronic, Claudiu Mateescu, Marius Marcovici (former aide to Calin Popescu Tariceanu) and Agricultural Sciences Academy President Gheorghe Sin are investigated while on conditional bail.
The “Prince” allegedly told DNA prosecutors that Remus Truica was boasting with his high-level political connections. In order to be more persuasive, Truica allegedly told Paul that he was the one who taught Adrian Nastase how to stash away his undeclared money, judicial sources told stiripesurse.ro.

Judicial sources quoted by Romania TV claim that because of these statements prosecutors could train their sights on Adrian Nastase once again.

Remus Truica was Adrian Nastase’s chief of staff while the latter was Premier.

“Prince” Paul was detained and placed under house arrest in this case that concerns the illegal restitution of property.

Former President Traian Basescu, the godfather of Prince Paul’s and Princess Lia’s child, was asked on Facebook for his opinion on the fact that Prince Paul was detained. “He is not my godson. I baptized his child. One is held accountable for one’s actions. But may I ask you something? If one of your brothers or sisters broke the law, would you consider yourself guilty too? Another thing, why do you believe he did not turn to me in order to recover his fortune, especially since he seemed willing to offer 50-80 per cent of the goods recovered? Could it be because I was not getting involved in influence peddling? A suggestion, don’t watch only Antena 3,” Basescu answered.
