Police gives 16 M lei in fines, seizes 174,000 lei worth of pyrotechnic materials in last week

The Romanian Police found as many as 3,475 offences last week and applied more than 64,000 sanctions totalling over 16 million lei, the Internal Affairs Ministry’s spokesperson Monica Dajbog said on unveiling the results obtained by the ministry structures in enforcing the measure plan for Safe Winter Holidays on Saturday.

The policemen drew up 50 tax evasion files last week and applied 1,323 sanctions for illicit trade, with the fines totalling almost 800,000 lei; as many as 75 illegalities were found on checking the manner of marketing pyrotechnic materials, with such materials worth more than 174,000 lei being seized, Dajbog added.

“In only one action organised in Timis county, the policemen barred from marketing 120 tonnes of pyrotechnic materials, while another five tonnes were seized in view of further inquiry. Special attention was paid to the prevention of illegal fir tree cutting or marketing fir trees without the legal paperwork. As many as 112 offences were found here and the fines stood at more than 787,000 lei”, she explained.

Since the beginning of the nationwide action dubbed Safe Winter Holidays, the policemen and gendarmes have taken action in nearly 52,000 events, representing a daily average of nearly 2,000 interventions. No events likely to seriously affect public order and safety were recorded at a national level, the ministry spokesperson said.
