Romania finishes third at World Handball Championships

The Romanian women’s national handball team finished on third place at the World Championships, after defeating Poland on Sunday at the end of a game that the Romanian team clearly dominated, score 31-22 (15-8 at half time).

Cristina Neagu was once again in top shape and shattered Poland’s goal. Neagu, the best player in Romania and the world, became the tournament’s top scorer with 63 goals. Romania was defeated by Norway in extra time and failed to reach the World Championships final after a ten-year dry spell.

Romania finished the World Championships in Serbia on 10th place in 2013 and is the only team that took part in all World Championships since 1957. Our country won the tournament in 1962, finished on second place in 1973 and 2005 and won two outdoor tournaments in 1956 and 1960.
