Actress Stela Popescu, decorated by President Klaus Iohannis on her birthday

President Klaus Iohannis signed on Monday a decree decorating actress Stela Popescu with the National Order “Romanian Star” in the rank of Knight. She celebrated her 80th anniversary on Monday, too.

According to the press release of the Presidential Administration, President Klaus Iohannis granted the National Order “The Romanian Star” to Ms. Stela Popescu, “as a sign of deep appreciation of the remarkable artistic performances held on some of the most important stages of the country, for the love and talent she showed in promoting the art of theatre and delighting numerous generations of viewers”.
One of Romania’s best known personalities, actress Stela Popescu celebrated her 80th anniversary on Monday. On this occasion, the Constantin Tanase Revue Theatre organized an anniversary show entitled “Cheers, Stella”.
At the end of the show, Stela Popescu made a joyous promise to all her fans: “I will be waiting for you on December 21, 2020.”

Stela Popescu was born on December 21, in Orhei, Bessarabia but had to flee Moldova with the Russian invasion, accompanied by her mother. The two of them moved to Brasov.
She studied at the Theatre and Film Art Institute and, starting in 1954, she has performed thousands of theatre and television shows, as well as film roles.
She is famous for comedy couples she has formed with Stefan Banica Sr. and afterwards with Alexandru Arsinel, with whom she is still performing at this point.
