Cardinal Lucian: Dreams are humankind’s most treasured things, Christmas is such a moment

Cardinal Lucian, Major Archbishop of the Romanian Church United with Rome, Greek-Catholic said in a Christmas Pastoral Letter that dreams are the most treasured things of humankind and Christmas is such a moment by excellence.

“Dreams are the most treasured things of humankind. And maybe, for the very reason that they describe realities close to perfection, people paradoxically often consider them unattainable, giving the word ‘dreamer’ a significance indicating a more or less severe break-up from reality. Nevertheless, the Holy Scripture and the history of humankind tell us that the persons who had the courage to dream, without resigning with the cruel reality around them, are the ones who really changed the world. There are, of course, different kinds of dreams… But the truly great people blended their dreams with the dreams that God had of them, making an unhoped for experience of joy, peace and heavenly happiness flood our human existence”, Cardinal Lucian said.

“Christmas is such a moment by excellence”, he underscored, adding that “after the banish from the Garden of Eden, the whole humanity was dreaming of the moment things would have returned back to their old way, waiting for the re-fulfilment of the communion with God by countless scenarios related to the time and manner in which they would have come true”.

The high Greek-Catholic cleric said Jesus comes to us with peace in His heart that humankind had been waiting for as if being a sweet nostalgia of the Garden of Eden.

Cardinal Lucian stressed “the Feast of the Lord’s Nativity speaks to us, year after year, of the love with which Heaven surrounds each and every one of us” and recalls that “Holy Father Pope Francis inaugurated on December 8 the Holy Year of Mercy, a Jubilee Year, the symbolical component of which is the very entry through the Holy Door”.

At the end of the Pastoral Letter, the cardinal wishes that the Nativity of the Bethlehem Infant drove away all fear from the souls.
