Survey: Romania, Austria are Romanians’ main options for winter holidays

Romania and Austria are Romanians’ main options for winter holidays, according to a survey by a Romanian tour operator specializing in the destination of Austria, on Romanian tourists’ preferences for winter holidays.

As types of tourist packages, the highest demand was for Christmas Markets, followed by the city breaks, stays with Christmas customs, New Year’s Eve tourist packages, ski holidays and tour packages to exotic destinations.

As trends, Romanian tourists have chosen Romania more than in previous years. City break tourism in Western Europe recorded a slight decrease due to the attacks in Paris, according to the survey.

Top destinations in terms of Christmas Markets are Vienna (Austria), Nuremberg (Germany), Sibiu (Romania), Prague (Czech Republic), Munich (Germany) and Milan (Italy).

Romanians also still prefer ski destinations, with Austria topping the relevant classification. The following winter sports destinations are Bulgaria, Italy, France and Romania.

The situation of travel package sales for winter holidays recorded by tour operator Edelweiss Travel, the author of the survey, revealed that Romanians have chosen their own country as destination in a proportion of 52pct, followed by Austria (16pct), Germany (12pct), Bulgaria (11pct), exotic destinations (4pct), while other destinations accounted for 5pct of preferences.
