195 foreign citizens recorded in illegal situations in Romania in December

Policemen with the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) have recorded, in December, in illegal situations, 195 foreign nationals, fined a total of 44,425 lei in accordance with the provisions of Emergency Ordinance 194/2002 regarding the status of foreigners in Romania.

Of them – most from countries like Israel, Moldova, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Morocco – 67 met criteria necessary for extensions of stay, 93 were removed from the country’s territory, and 35 were subjected to other measures, the IGI mentions in a release remitted on Thursday to Agerpres.

Furthermore, companies that were noted to employ foreign nationals with no legal forms were fined a total of 30,500 lei, in accordance with the provisions of ordinance 25/2014 regarding the employment and detachment of foreigners on Romanian soil.

The aforementioned were detected during the 148 actions and controls undertaken by IGI policemen in cooperation with other structures with attributes in the realm of public order and safety.

According to the release, in the context of a Jordanian national being declared persona non grata by the Bucharest Court of Appeals, the policemen with the Migration Directorate and the Immigration Service of Constanta County took appropriate measures to identify him and take him into custody.

Later, in order to carry out the decision of the court, the foreign national was accommodated to one of the specialized centers of the General Inspectorate for Immigration, procedures to remove him under escort from Romanian soil being started at the same time.

In terms of asylum, the same period saw 64 requests to grant a form of international protection in Romania. Most persons requesting protection were from countries like Syria, Bangladesh and Iraq, the IGI mentions.
