Frost until Sunday for tourists of Romania’s Balea Ice Hotel

The 28 tourists, mainly British and German, who have spent the New Year’s Eve in the only ice hotel of Romania, the one at Lake Balea (Balea Lac), in the southern Fagaras Mts., faced a frosty night, given that the morning temperature recorded minus 18.8 degrees Celsius and 76 cm of snow, according to forecasters.

Those who stay in the ice rooms of the genuine hotel and protect themselves from cold with sleeping bags, have a plus of a few degrees, say the hotel’s officials.

The tourists who are to check in or visit by Sunday the Ice Hotel should have in mind that the temperatures outside will be frosty, according to weatherpersons. The minimum temperature could drop to minus 24 degrees Celsius.

The avalanche risk is low by Sunday at over 2,000m high in the Fagaras Massive, at Lake Balea. In order to climb up to this tourist area, the daring should wait for the cable even three-to-four hours and pay 60 lei per person (1 euro=4.5 lei) for a two-way ticket from Cascade Balea to Lake Balea.
