Premier Dacian Ciolos will pay an official visit to Berlin on January 7. Ciolos will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The meeting was agreed at the last European Council meeting of 2015, a meeting in which Ciolos represented Romania for the first time.
The delegation that will accompany the Premier includes Foreign Affairs Minister Lazar Comanescu and Dragos Tudorache, the head of the Prime Minister’s Chancellery, Government Spokesperson Dan Suciu informed.
“It will be a working meeting, a working lunch with Chancellor Angela Merkel. We will have a meeting with the Romanian community and with the Romanian-German Forum that has representatives in Berlin. The goal is to strengthen bilateral relations and to established, clarify the common goals on the European agenda, there are topics that were discussed this month at the European Council too, topics concerning migration, foreign policy,” Suciu pointed out.
It is the second bilateral high level meeting in almost one year. In February 2015, President Klaus Iohannis went to Berlin in order to discuss with Angela Merkel the challenges of the moment, Romania’s Schengen Area accession as well as the Republic of Moldova’s situation.
Premier Dacian Ciolos has decided to charter a private plane instead of one from Tarom. After Dacian Ciolos paid EUR 7,300 to charter a Tarom plane to fly to Brussels in December 2015, the Government will now pay EUR 23,500 to charter Tiriac’s plane, according to Romania TV.
