Firefighters and paramedics of the Mobile Emergency Resuscitation and Extrication Service (SMURD) already made 9,752 interventions in the first seven days of 2016, spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Monica Dajbog announced on Saturday.
“With a great part of the country under blizzard and snowfall advisories in the past week, some 23,000 police, firefighters, gendarmes and border police took daily action in support of the local authorities and the citizens to contain and remove the effects of weather phenomena. As a result of the measures set in place during the effectiveness period of the nationwide weather and hydrologic advisories, no serious adverse effects were registered on localities, communication lines or the population,” Dajbog said in a press statement this Saturday on ensuring public order and safety and the management of emergencies this week.
Nationwide, firefighters and SMURD paramedics responded to 9,752 emergencies in the past 7 days, of which over 6,600 were SMURD missions; firefighters intervened to put out 682 fires.
“Over 300 mountain gendarmes also went on missions to rescue and evacuate tourists at difficulty; 13 skiers who sustained various injuries while on slope in the counties of Brasov, Maramures, Hunedoara and Suceava were duly offered assistance. Find and rescue missions were also organized in Valcea County, the Parang and Postavaru Massifs,” Dajbog also said.
