The Mayor of Tatulesti commune of Olt County, Lucian Istrate, was lethally shot on Saturday afternoon while on a hunting spree. The official passed away shortly, according to Police sources quoted by Mediafax. They pointed out that Ambulance doctors who arrived at the scene of the accident could only register the victim’s death. Police officers started an investigation in this case, and will establish exactly how the tragedy went on.
According to initial information, the Mayor of Tatulesti was injured in the thorax area, and it was a bullet wound of lethal risk, therefore, the doctors of the Ambulance were only able to note that the man had died.
The hunting trip Istrate had attended was organized by a hunting organization of Tatulesti, managed by the Sports Hunters and Fishermen Association (AJVPS) in Olt. The Chair of AJVPS Olt, Mircea Albulescu, declared for Agerpres that the official was not a hunter and that it could be possible he attended the trip organized for rabbits and pheasants as a runner.
Albulescu revealed his opinion that the mayor was accidentally shot and perhaps he was not noticed by a hunter targeting a rabbit.
According to certain sources, the Mayor was allegedly left behind the group, he turned his back to the persons in the group and, at that point, a rabbit jumped towards him. A hunter targeting the rabbit failed to see the mayor and pulled the trigger; the bullet reached Lucian Istrate in his heart area.
Lucian Istrate, aged 49, was a member of PSD and was completing his third term as Mayor of Tatulesti Commune.
The hunter who shot lethally on Saturday the Mayor of Tatulesti commune has experienced seven years ago a family tragedy that was also caused by a hunting gun because, in February 2009, his six and a half year old son who died due to a gunshot inflicted by a teenager he was playing with during his holiday spent at his grandparents’ home in Tatulesti commune, Vice-Mayor Stefan Marius Petrut revealed on Saturday for Agerpres.
