Draft law could ban parking of cars on sidewalks

Parking on sidewalks should be banned unless pedestrians can use a portion of the sidewalk of at least two metres in width. This is what a PNL Senator wants and he has already filed a draft law in this sense. He claims that the 1-metre width stipulated by the legislation currently in force is insufficient, especially for persons that use wheelchairs or strollers.

In many Bucharest neighbourhoods sidewalks are entirely occupied by parked cars.

PNL Senator Valeriu Todirascu, the initiator of the draft law, claims that parking on sidewalks should be allowed only in marked areas and pedestrians should be able to use a portion of the sidewalk of at least two metres in width. The current law stipulates a width of only one metre.

The law will enter the Senate’s debate in February, when Parliament’s recess ends.
