International Salon of Photography Art, at the 20th edition

Dozens of visitors, some of them with their camera hanging on their neck, visited on Tuesday evening the museum located in central Bucharest to attend the opening of the 20th edition of Romania’s International Salon of Photography Art (SIAF). During the exhibition organized under the title “The Day of Photography Art in Romania”, 400 photographs may be admired or even criticised at the Municipality Museum of Bucharest by people for whom photography is more than a mere picture.

The works exhibited were selected by members of the international jury – that included professional photographers of high prestige, such as Virgilio Bardossi (Italy), Daniel Badescu (Romania) and Balasi Csaba (Romania) – of the 1,960 works sent in for the competition by 240 photographers out of 39 countries. Moreover, 38 medals and mentions were granted by the International Federation of Photography Art (FIAP) and the Association of Romanian Photography Artists (AAFR).

The present edition of SIAF also included works by 53 Romanian photography artists. Best results were achieved by Nagy Lajos, winner of the FIAP golden medal for “Running with the wind”, Alexandra Fira, winner of the AAFR golden medal for “Autumn in my soul”, Stefan Chirobocea, winner of a FIAP mention for “Autumn Pastel”, and Bathory Zsigmond, also a winner of a FIAP mention for “Warm rocks”.

Appreciated as the most important event of the Romanian photography art with a tradition of over half of a century, the Romanian salon reunited, as it does annually, works by top photographers worldwide.

“This year, we reached the 20th edition. It is an important landmark for Romanian photography, that comes to prove the artistic quality of the Romanian school of photography and determines you, at the same time, to look confidently into the future of photography art on Romania.

It is a future that cannot gain its well-deserved brilliance without enjoying your valuable works”, manager of the Salon Eugen Negrea declared. Negrea is also the chairman of Romania’s Association of Photography Artists.

In the opening, all accepted images are screened and the award winning ones will be presented in an exhibition destined to travel in several cities of Romania.
