18 pc of Bucharesters want Traian Basescu back at City Hall

Former President Traian Basescu is second in the Bucharesters’ preferences for the City Hall, according to a survey conducted by the Avangarde institute. Basescu, who was Bucharest Mayor from June 2000 to December 2004, would be voted by 18 per cent of Bucharesters.

PSD Senator Gabriela Firea tops the rankings however. According to the survey, 30 per cent of Bucharesters would vote for her.

The two are followed by Nicusor Dan, who is third with 17 per cent of the voting intentions. Cristian Busoi is fourth, with 13 per cent, the survey ordered by PSD shows.

Asked whether they would prefer a woman as Bucharest Mayor, 82 per cent of Bucharesters answered positively, while 14 per cent answered negatively.

In what concerns the political parties, PSD continues to top the Bucharesters’ preferences. Asked whom would they vote for if parliamentary elections were to take place next Sunday, 37 per cent of Bucharesters chose PSD, while 36 per cent chose PNL.

Asked what priorities the future Mayor should have, 18 per cent chose sanitation, 11 per cent city traffic and 10 per cent quality of roads.

When it comes to electing the General Council, 32 per cent would vote for PSD, 28 per cent for PNL and 7 per cent for ALDE and the Popular Movement.

The survey was conducted on December 16-22, on a sample of 1,004 respondents.
