Low-cost carrier Ryanair announced on January 14 the opening of its 78th base at Timisoara’s ‘Traian Vuia’ International Airport. The base, for which Ryanair will allocate one airplane, represents an investment of EUR 100 M and will become operational on November 1, according to the information offered by company representatives. The carrier will operate seven new routes from the airport, toward Berlin, Brussels, Charleroi, Dusseldorf Weeze, Frankfurt Hahn, London Stansted, Milan Bergamo, but also a new route toward Bucharest, which will feature two flights per day. Ryanair’s first base in Romania will serve 575,000 new clients per year and will create 430 jobs at the Timisoara International Airport.
“In the following months, Romanian clients should expect further improvements part of the “Always Getting Better” programme, including new interior designs for the airplanes, new uniforms for crewmembers, several low-cost routes, all because Ryanair continues to offer more than just low costs. To celebrate our new base in Timisoara, we have put up for sale 100,000 seats, at tariffs that start at EUR 19.99 for air travel in November and December, and booking until midnight on Tuesday, January 19. In order not to miss out on the promotional offer, clients are invited to quickly log on to www.ryanair.com in order to schedule their next trip,” Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer David O’Brien stated in Timisoara.
“The presence of a carrier such as Ryanair at the Timisoara International Airport and the introduction of new air flights mean new opportunities both for the airport as well as the citizens living in Romania’s western region. Likewise, this will also have as a direct consequence the significant growth of the area’s economic attractiveness and, for the airport, a growth in the number of passengers and in turnover,” Timisoara International Airport CEO Dan Iulian Idolu stated.
