President Iohannis decorates two soldiers wounded in Afghanistan

Lieutenant Adrian-Ciprian Iriciuc and Corporal Andrei-Sergiu Lineschi, injured by a car bomb last year in Afghanistan, were decorated by President Klaus Iohannis, who signed on Wednesday a decree in this respect.

According to a release by the Presidential Administration, the head of state bestowed the ‘Faithful Service’ National Order in Rank of Knight, with war insignia, for the military, to Lieutenant Adrian-Ciprian Iriciuc, and the ‘Faithful Service’ National Medal, Class III, with war insignia, for the military, to Corporal Andrei-Sergiu Lineschi “in recognition and appreciation of their high professionalism, selflessness, courage and spirit of sacrifice proven in completing their functional duties during the event occurred on September 20, 2015 in the Afghanistan theatre of operations, upon which they were injured.”

The decoration was proposed by National Defence Minister Mihnea Motoc.

Lt. Iriciuc and Cpl. Lineschi of the Infantry Forces Protection 881th Battalion – the ‘Transylvanian Dragons’ – were wounded by a car bomb close to the Kandahar military base, during a patrol mission. The explosion also injured Corporal Ion Ichim.
