The Revenant in Romanian cinema theatres, starting this Friday

On Friday, January 22, Romanian cinema theatres host the premiere of the film The Revenant (The Legend of Hugh Glass), starring Leonardo diCaprio and Tom Hardy, directed by Alejandro González Inarritu (Amores Perros, Babel, Birdman). The film has 12 nominations for the 2016 edition of the American Academy Awards.

The Revenant was inspired by a novel by Michael Punke, based on a real story. The action takes place in North America, in 1823, and its protagonist is Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio), member of an expedition organized in the Rocky Mountains, where he gets caught and severely wounded by a grizzly bear.

The captain of the group leaves behind three people to keep Glass company during the last few hours of his life and to dig his grave, but the three of them are afraid they might get caught by Indians, therefore, they take Glass’ weapons and equipment and run away.

Nonetheless, the hero of the terrible confrontation with the grizzly bear does not die: he crawls, although mutilated, through over 300 kilometres in the forests, animated by fierce plans of revenge against the people who left him behind.

The cast: Leonardo diCaprio – Hugh Glass, Tom Hardy – John Fitzgerald, Domhnall Gleeson – Andrew Henry, Will Poulter – Jim Bridger, Paul Anderson – Anderson, Brendan Fletcher – Fryman, Kristoffer Joner – Murphy.

The film The Revenant has already won three Golden Globes: for the Best Film in Drama Category, the Best Director and the Best Actor in a Drama Category, as well as a nomination for the Best Soundtrack. The film also has the most nominations for this year’s Oscars, amounting to twelve, including Best Film, Besz Director, Best Actor in a Lead Role – Leonardo diCaprio and Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Tom Hardy.

Script writers: Michael Punke, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Mark L. Smith. Directed by: Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
