U.S. ambassador visits Roma community

U.S. Ambassador Hans Klemm, who visited on Friday several villages with Roma communities in the central Covasna County, said he was honoured by the invitation and that the visit has been a lesson.

He was the guest of several schools and kindergartens in the villages of Araci and Hetea in the commune of Valcele and the homes of some Roma locals. He also talked with the local officials.

Ambassador Klemm mentioned that he represents the United States’ President, Administration and citizens not just in Bucharest, but throughout Romania. He added that knowing the whole country as much as possible was important to better understand it and the possible challenges to the American-Romanian partnership.

Although some of the Romanians he met were very disadvantaged and poor, he shared his strong feelings about the children’s wish to learn and by the warmth of the families who welcomed him in Hetea. He noted that despite their difficult living conditions, people were proud of their accomplishments at home.

The ambassador was invited to Covasna by the OvidiuRo association, which carries out educational programmes for the children in disadvantaged communities.
