SRI: Counter-terrorism Brigade conducts tactical exercise at Israel Embassy

The Romanian Intelligence Service’s (SRI) Counter-terrorism Brigade (BAT) on Saturday, at the headquarters of the Embassy of the State of Israel in Bucharest, in cooperation with the security structure of the aforementioned embassy, the Inspectorate General of the Romanian Police (IGPR) and the Romanian Gendarmerie, as members of the National System for Preventing and Combating Terrorism, carried out an exercise on solving a terrorist hostage crisis.

According to a SRI release sent to Agerpres, the aim of the exercise was that of “testing the reaction capacity of the institutions in the National System for Preventing and Combating Terrorism (SNPCT), in the context of a terrorist attack on one of the locations under its responsibility.”

“The activities were aimed at evaluating the efficiency of the response measures to a terrorist crisis and, in particular, the degree in which BAT (command, negotiation and assault teams, including pyrotechnic teams) acts as a whole for managing the crisis and re-establishing the legal order,” the SRI release points out.

The source adds that the tactical exercise was organised by the Romanian Intelligence Service, as national authority in preventing and combating terrorism, after a scenario which included a set of specific actions of counter-terrorist intervention, as well as pyrotechnic intervention for neutralising a supposed improvised explosive device placed in an abandoned luggage in front of the building.
