The long films ”Son of Saul”, starring Romanian actor Levente Molnar, and ”Youth”, whose cast includes supermodel Madalina Ghenea, are among the seven films nominated on Wednesday for the Cesar Award, in the Best Foreign Film Category.
The nominations for the 21 technical and artistic categories were decided this year by the votes of 4,276 members of the Cinematography Art and Technique Academy in France and the Awards Ceremony will be held on February 26 in Paris.
The film ”Son of Saul”, by Hungarian director Laszlo Nemes,has already won in 2016 the Golden Globe for “Best Foreign Film” and is nominated in the same category for the Oscars, due on February 28.
The other nominations for this category of the Cesar Awards are: ”Je suis mort mais j’ai des amis”, by Guillaume Malandrin and Stephane Malandrin, ”Le tout nouveau testament”, by Jaco van Dormael, ”Taxi Teheran”, by Iranian Jafar Panahi, and ”Mia Madre”, by Italian director Nanni Moretti. The list also includes ‘Birdman”, by Mexican Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the winner of four Oscars last years. The film is running for the Cesars in 2016 because it was premiered in France in 2005.
The grand favourites of this year’s edition, the 41st, of Cesar Awards, with 11 nominations each, are the films ”Marguerite”, by Xavier Giannoli, and ”Trois souvenirs de ma jeunesse”, by Arnaud Desplechin.
