Swine flu alert!

The swine flu epidemic in Ukraine has put Romanian authorities on edge. So far, 16 possible cases of seasonal flu, the AH1N1 strain, have been identified in Bucharest, however confirmation is awaited from the Cantacuzino Institute.

The Suceava County Emergency Situations Committee (CJSU), convened on Saturday by Prefect Constantin Harasim, approved the plan of measures for preventing and combating swine flu, against the backdrop of developments in Ukraine and of five confirmed deaths caused by it in Cernauti, near the border with Suceava County.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry advises the postponement of travel to Ukraine. Doctors recommend enhanced care, the best preventive measure consisting of vaccination against this flu strain.
