Co-chairperson of the National Liberal Party (PNL) Alina Gorghiu met the family of the Bodnariu couple on her visit to the US at an event marking 14 years since the launch of the Chicago-based Romanian Tribune Newspaper.
“[There was] a warm atmosphere, emotional at the celebration of the Romanian Tribune Newspaper, the newspaper of Romanian Americans. The presence of the Bodnariu family was a surprise; they thanked Romanian authorities and the community for their support,” Gorghiu wrote Sunday evening on her Facebook account after attending the event in Chicago.
The message of the PNL co-chair was illustrated by several photographs, including one of relatives of the Bodnariu copuple.
On January 18, PNL co-chairperson Alina Gorghiu stated that the Romanian state had a late reaction in the Bodnariu case. The Bodnariu family had their five underage children removed from their home in Naustdal, Norway, by Norway’s Child Protection Services (Barnevernet) last November.
“It was a later reaction by the Romanian state. I am glad that after all they understood it was important to protect any citizen, regardless of where they are and to request a transparent procedure. Without any doubt, the state is sovereign to manage its procedures, the laws, but one is compelled to request a transparent procedure, one is compelled to look after the fate of one’s citizen, in particular because we are talking about underage children, Romanian citizens,” Gorghiu stated on the occasion.
The PNL co-chairperson is currently on a visit to the United States, which will last till the end of the week.
